Sky Blues ‘keeper Ben Wilson told how new recruit Simon Moore has settled into the Goalkeeping department following his arrival from Sheffield United.

Moore, who spent five years at Bramall Lane, joined the Sky Blues on a three-year deal linking up with Wilson, Tom Billson, Cian Tyler and Aled Williams.

However, Ben and Aled were two familiar faces for Moore, who worked alongside the duo when at Cardiff City, and Wilson revealed that he and Simon have picked up their relationship straight away.

“For me Simon isn’t new because I spent four years with him at Cardiff, so we hit it off again straight away.

“He’s fitted in really well and he’s been in the Premier League for the last two years, so he brings vital experience for the young lads and even for me to help me kick on.

“He’s a hard worker and he’s helped push us all on further which helps us because although he hasn’t played as much as he would have wanted to for the last two years, he brings an added oomph to the training group and that quality that brings a bit more to us.”

The four ‘keepers have been getting to know each other during their trip of Spain, as they not only work together, but share hotel rooms with one another.

With Wilson sharing with Cian Tyler, Moore has been partnered up with Tom Billson, something Ben revealed has been an eventful partnership so far.

“Not many goalkeepers room together when you travel to away games because normally if one of us gets ill you don’t want the other to be in the same room together, but I’m sharing with Cian Tyler and Simon is with Tom Billson.

“I think I’ve got the good side of it because apparently Billson is a loud snorer and Simon had to go and take his mattress into the bathroom because of how loud he was and sleep in there.

“I think they’ve done rock, paper, scissors to see who sleeps in the bathroom last night and Billson lost so he was in the bathroom.

“Although, I’m with Cian and he does sleep talk a bit, he was asking someone to turn the light on in the middle of the night, so that woke me up.

“But he’s not too bad, I just feel sorry for him because his feet stick out of the bed being 6ft8!”

The trip to Alicante is the second time Ben has been out to Spain with the Sky Blues, having flew out before during his first summer with the club.

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 last year, City weren’t able to travel abroad, but being back in their camp in Spain, Wilson is enjoying working in the heat.

“It’s been great, the weather helps, but from landing here all the lads have been together, and it’s been an amazing trip so far.

“We’ve been training in almost 40-degree heat, which some of the boys haven’t appreciated too much, but it’s been great.

“Last time we were here two years ago it brought everyone together and was a really good camp and hopefully it will be the same again come the end of this tour.”
