REPORT: Birmingham U23s 3-1 Sky Blues U23s

City slipped to defeat at Wast Hills...

18 January 2021

The Sky Blues Under-23s slipped to defeat to Birmingham City earlier today in PDL action at Wast Hills.

Marosi was called into action almost immediately as he had to be alert to prevent Josh Andrews finding the back of the net with a few minutes on the clock.

However, Marko could do nothing to prevent Kyle Hurst opening the scoring for the hosts, as he curled an effort in from the edge of the area to make it 1-0 after seven minutes.

The closest the Sky Blues came to getting a leveller came when Josh Eccles ran through and looked for Bremang at the far post, but his effort whistled past the post.

Although with 27 minutes on the clock the Sky Blues did grab an equaliser and it came through Josh Pask, who brought the ball down in the box and smashed the ball home on the turn to make it 1-1.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Marko produced a fine double stop to deny Hurst firstly and the on the follow-up he had to be up quick to deny Andrews.

After the restart, Marko continued to be put through his paces on his return to action and this time it took a fantastic stop to deny Oriol Soldevila from finding the back of the net.

10 minutes later, Marosi could do nothing to prevent the Spaniard scoring this time as the Blues man raced through after a counter attack and slotted past the City ‘keeper.

Things got worse for the Sky Blues and it was Soldevila again who grabbed his second of the game and Birmingham’s third as he was on the end of a cut-back from inside of the area.

The Sky Blues almost made an immediate response following Birmingham’s third and it was Blaine Rowe who stormed down the right and played a superb ball across the box for Harrison Nee, but the Blues ‘keeper made a fine stop to deny the sub.

At the other end, Soldevila almost had a hat-trick, when he raced onto a long ball over the top, but he was denied by the woodwork.

Another Marosi save late on was the last of the action, as the Sky slipped to defeat against Birmingham.
