City get back to winning ways...

23 February 2021

The Sky Blues got back to winning ways after a brace from Josh Eccles helped complete a second half turnaround.

It was the Sky Blues who had the first opportunity of the game and it was defender Joe Newton who saw the ball break to him in space and he got a shot away which whistled past the post.

City were on top in the opening ten minutes and they went close again when Fabio Tavares beat his man down the right and picked out Josh Eccles but he dragged his shot wide.

However, it was the visitors to who went closest to opening the scoring when Alex Hunt hit the woodwork from a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The visitors did take the lead and it was Lewis Farmer who found himself in the box to head past Billson and give the Owls the lead.

City looked to get back into it and they had a chance through Wesley Jobello who was slid through on goal but from a tight angle his effort was saved.

The Frenchman was involved again moments later when he stood over a set-piece on the edge of the area, but his effort was saved.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

After the break, City came out all guns blazing and they got their reward when Josh Eccles slotted home a superb free-kick from around 20 yards out.

The midfielder was shining and he skipped past one challenge and then another to fire home from the edge of the box and grab his second and put City in front for the first team.

The Sky Blues were on top for the majority of the second half and they almost added a third through Will Bapaga who beat his man and found space in the box, but his effort went agonisingly wide.

Jordan Young made his return to the 23s and he had a chance with a free-kick from the edge of the area, but his set-piece went over the bar.

Young went close again a few moments later when he got a shot away from the edge of the area, but the Owls ‘keeper tipped his shot over the bar.

With five minutes left on the clock Liam Shaw had a chance for the visitors, as he was on the end of a ball into the box, but he couldn’t steer his effort on target.
