MISSING MEN: Huddersfield Town 0-1 Sky Blues - 1972

Can you remember the missing men from a memorable win against the Terriers…

9 December 2021

Ahead of City’s clash with Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship this Saturday, we take a trip down memory lane and remember a famous victory against our opponents…

This week’s edition takes us back to the Sky Blues’ last away league win over the Terriers, when Bob Dennison’s side travelled to West Yorkshire to face second bottom Town at Leeds Road in April 1972.

The previous home game had seen City end their eleven game winless run with a bang, triumphing 4-1 over Everton but a defeat to fellow Merseyside outfit Liverpool meant that the Sky Blues were still needing points to guarantee survival.

In a close affair, that was watched by the small crowd City had played in front of that season, the visitors broke the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining when the Sky Blues’ striker found the net despite being closed down by three Town defenders.

Huddersfield only managed two shots all game with the win sealing Coventry’s survival whilst the Terriers would end up being relegated in last place, with the Toffees and Huddersfield the two opponents City did the double over that season.

However, what we want to know is how well do you remember the Sky Blues side from that day, can you name the starting eleven and the substitutes?
