UNDER-18S: Sky Blues 3-2 Watford

The Under-18s got off to a winning start...

16 August 2021

The Sky Blues Under-18s got their season off to a winning start, as they beat Watford at the Alan Higgs Centre.

A fresh look U18’s side that featured three U16s players started well in their first fixture of the new season, and they were awarded with an early goal from Isaac Moore, who tapped in a goal mouth scramble from a corner.

It was all Coventry for the first 20 minutes with the side looking comfortable on the ball, playing the majority of the game in the opposition’s half.

The Sky Blues then made it two just before the break as the trialist striker held up the ball well for Bradley Stretton and he broke through the defensive line to the edge of the box, where he rifled the ball into the top corner, giving City a 2-0 lead going into the break.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 2-0 Watford

After the break, Stretton and the Trialist linked up well numerous times early in the second period causing problems for the Watford defence, but they couldn’t find the final product.

It was then the visitors turn to have apply the pressure after a low cross from out wide found the Watford striker who at point blank range saw his effort saved by Luke Bell, who pulled off a save of the season contender to keep the score at 2-0.

Unfortunately, Bell could do nothing to prevent the Hornets pulling one back, as they were given a penalty, which Adian Manning converted to set up a crucial last five minutes.

But despite halving the deficit, the Sky Blues responded to conceding and just a minute later Moore grabbed his second on the counter-attack after he was left in the middle of the park with the ball and produced a moment of magic, lofting the keeper from the half-way line.

Jack Grieves drilled one into the bottom corner for Watford in injury time, but this would prove to be nothing more than another consolation as the Sky Blues would see the game out to pick up a much-deserved win.
