The young Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw against Cardiff City at the Alan Higgs Centre this past weekend.
The visitors provided a tough physical opposition for City’s youngsters, who competed well to maintain their unbeaten run and keep their first clean sheet of the season.
It was the visitors who had the first big chance of the game, but Luke Bell was on hand to deny a deflected strike from the edge of the area, that looked to be heading for the top corner.
A few minutes later Bell was on hand again with another brilliant save to deny James Crole at the near post.
The game was then turned on its head when the Sky Blues were awarded a penalty when a Trialist was brought down in the box. However, City were unable to convert as the Trialist who won the penalty stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was saved by Jacob Dennis.
HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-0 Cardiff City.
After the break, it was the away side who had the first opportunity of the half, with centre-back Josh Rippen heading over from a corner.
At the other end, Sam Rodber latched onto a back pass from the Cardiff backline, but despite getting to the ball first, he was unable to get a shot away.
The second period became very cagey and after Coventry were awarded a foul a small scuffle followed, which resulted in a couple of yellow cards. Tensions didn’t cool down there, as soon after a red card was shown to Jac Clay for a dangerous tackle, reducing the Bluebirds to ten men.
However, despite the man advantage, the Sky Blues were unable to find the breakthrough as Cardiff held on and ensured the points would be shared.
City remain unbeaten in the 2021/22 Professional Development Under-18s league, currently sat in 5th with five points from their opening three fixtures.
