Viktor Gyokeres's strike in first half injury time earns the Sky Blues their first win on the road this season.
City began the match brightly, with Callum O’Hare playing in Viktor Gyokeres whose low shot was well saved by Chris Maxwell in the Blackpool goal.
Josh Bowler would have the home side’s first effort of the night blocked by Sky Blues skipper Kyle McFadzean before City went up the other end which resulted in Gyokeres smashing the post from an acute angle.
Keshi Anderson would be next to try his luck, however his shot deflected off Hamer and was comfortably saved by Simon Moore.
In an end to end opening 25 minutes, Callum O’Hare’s strike went just the wrong side of the post after Gyokeres did well to keep the ball in play on the byline.
Maxwell would be called into action from Jamie Allen’s shot, with the City midfielder taking advantage of a defensive slip up.
City’s corners were causing the Tangerines’ all sorts of problems, with the latest set piece seeing O’Hare’s overhead kick putting the ball back across goal for McFadzean, with the defender only seeing his effort saved by the acrobatics of Maxwell.
Next Pool forward Jerry Yates made it into the six-yard box, but Moore pounced on the ball before he could get his shot away.
The home side’s next effort would come down the right-hand side when Shayne Lowery cut inside and fired his effort wide of the post before the striker was denied by the onrushing Moore.
And as the half entered injury time the Sky Blues would take the lead!
Fankaty Dabo found space down the right hand side with his cross initially saved by Maxwell only for the ball to rebound off Gyokeres and into the net.
HALF TIME: Blackpool 0-1 Sky Blues
Ian Maatsen had the first shot of the first half after Gyokeres turned Richard Keogh but the defender’s effort went over the bar.
O’Hare collected the ball out on the left and cut inside beating one then two Blackpool defenders with his effort earning a corner.
Moore was winning the battle with Yates with the City ‘keeper denying the forward again when he came rushing out to deny him one on one.
And he would be called into action minutes later when Anderson fired from range with Moore able to push the ball away.
City almost had a second when Maatsen played in Hamer, who beat his man, but Maxwell got a touch to ensure the ball went narrowly wide of the post.
Bowler won Blackpool a free kick with Moore’s strong punch denying Luke Garbutt’s swerving effort before Lavery headed over from close range for the hosts.
With six minutes added City would be made to wait but the Sky Blues held on to take the points!
