INTERVIEW: Mark Robins Wolves Reaction

The Gaffer reflected on the clash against the Midlands rival...

Mark Robins believes the run out against Wolves was a ‘decent test’ for his players with one week to go till the start of the 2021/22 SkyBet Championship.

Martyn Waghorn got off the mark with a spot kick after Wolves had scored either side of half time, through Fabio Silva and Ruben Neves.

Robins said: “It was a decent test for us today playing against Premier League opposition, it is always a tall order even if in pre-season it can be a bit more of a leveler.

“You can see the quality of the players and I think their second goal was testament to that.

“The two goals were poor from our perspective, and we gave it as good as we got. I thought we moved the ball well and created a good number of chances.

“The last 48 hours has been the best its looked rhythm wise so it’s going in the right direction, which is good.”

Robins said that there were plenty of signs that his side are beginning to gel and had a special mention for his new signing.

“I thought the cohesion of the team was a lot better than it had been, we’ve had new players coming in so they have to get used to things but there was some really good signs with relationships starting to build.

“Ian Maatsen has just come in and had just a couple of training sessions and the first half today after being out for a little while, but he was promising, showed some really good promise. He can play several different positions for us as well so that’s good.

“It looks like the ingredients are there to be optimistic. We have certainly improved the front part of the pitch and there is still some improvement to come from players who aren’t quite there yet with their fitness.

“The players have got on with it and done what has been asked of them. It has been hard work to date, but we’ll step it up this week and hopefully we’ll be ready for the Forest game.”

The Sky Blues take on Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest at 4:30pm, next Sunday, at the Coventry Building Society Arena as City get their SkyBet Championship campaign underway.
