INTERVIEW: Mark Robins Reading Reaction

21 August 2021

Mark Robins’ side overcame a first-half 1-0 deficit to claim the three points at the Coventry Building Society Arena earlier today, a feat which the Sky Blues boss credits the fans for.

A 98th minute winner from Matty Godden made it two last-gasp home league wins in as many games today, adding to Jamie Allen’s earlier equaliser – a performance to match the fans’ impressive support.

“I think that the supporters have a massive bearing on that result; the energy that they’re providing is huge. There’s one common denominator between all of the club’s eras, and it’s them.

“It can’t be underestimated, the power of the supporters,” Robins highlighted.

While his side left it late to claim victory on the pitch today, the Sky Blues’ battling performance is due to the team’s efforts throughout the week, Robins added.

“It’s been a really good, strong week for us, and today’s performance was really good.

“The work that’s going on at the training ground is good, it’s exciting and hopefully we can continue in the same vein. It’s very early days, but it’s a good start for us.

“I thought that we moved the ball pretty well, I thought we got into good positions and create opportunities.

“I thought that the movement and energy that Jamie Allen and Matty Godden brought gave us a bit more of a lift, with Ben Sheaf dropping deeper.

“The game needed a bit of energy and Jamie Allen provides that. Obviously, Matty Godden has been working so hard in the last few months. He’s been frustrated that he’s been out for the amount of time that he has been, but he can sense that he’s ready and you could see that today with his movement.”

While the last two home league games have been an impressive spectacle for the fans, we asked if that is Robins’ favourite kind of win.

“You take what you can get; for us it’s about the results in the end and the performance levels have been really good. For us, that’s the key – getting the performances right.”

The SkyBet Championship action continues next weekend, as Mark Robins and his Sky Blues take the trip to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium to face QPR on Saturday.
