INTERVIEW: Luke Tisdale Colchester Reaction

The 23s made it back-to-back wins...

25 August 2021

Sky Blues Under-23s Head Coach Luke Tisdale was pleased with what he saw in his side’s 2-0 win over Colchester United yesterday afternoon.

Goals from Jordan Shipley and George Burroughs secured the points and ensured City’s 100% start to the season was continued.

“I thought we played some really good stuff.” Tisdale said.

“First half we were a little bit too open and were sloppy at times as well, but the football we did play, I thought was excellent.

“It was nice for Shipperz to get his goal and arguably we could’ve been a couple more up at half-time.

“Second half we tried to get more of a grip on the game and a little bit more base of possession to play from and I thought we did that and we had control of the second half.

“Also, it was brilliant for George Burroughs to get his first goal in the stadium. He’s a Coventry fan and he’s been with the club for a long time, so he went home smiling.

“It’s two wins from two and it’s a perfect start.”

The Sky Blues Under-23s hosted the U’s at the Coventry Building Society Arena, their first fixture there since 2019.

With a crowd of a over 1,000 in attendance, it was an experience for the 23s something Tisdale believes will only help them in their development.

“The win at Ipswich last week was brilliant because of the travelling we have to do and we’ve got that coming up next week against Swansea.

“Equally, playing games again in a stadium at the CBS Arena is brilliant because it will be the first time a lot of these boys have played here and it’s a great experience for them.

“The group is quite new and they’ve had two years of St Andrew’s watching games there and the rest of our fixtures have been at the Alan Higgs Centre, so we’ve had no stadium home games.

“We had a decent crowd in pre-season at Leamington and then Gloucester when we went there but they’re all good experiences for the young players, things they don’t get unless they’re out on loan.

“Nobody got to experience supporters at all last season, so it’s nice to finally have that back for the lads.”

The 23s are next in action on Monday when they travel to Swansea City, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm.
