INTERVIEW: Jodi Jones Northampton Town Reaction

The City man made his return to the starting eleven...

12 August 2021

Jodi Jones reflected on his return to the starting eleven last night against Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup.

It has been almost three years since Jodi lined-up in a City starting eleven and the 23-year-old told how much hard work had gone in to that moment.

“I always believe in myself; I have good people around me so with hard work and determination I knew that I would get back here.” Jodi mentioned.

“Seeing clips of what I can do on the football pitch obviously did make me want to keep fighting and come back stronger; it pushes me on.

“When I did get back from injury it was a matter of just working hard every day and fighting for my spot in the team.”

Jodi’s first appearance of the 2021/22 season came in City’s dramatic victory versus Nottingham Forest last weekend, entering the field from the bench in the second half. Jones highlighted the welcoming ovation he received from the home crowd upon his introduction.

“To get the win at the weekend was amazing and to get on the pitch for the amount of time that I did, I appreciate it. It was a nice feeling to get on the pitch and the fans showed me a lot of love.”

Yesterday’s Carabao Cup tie offered Jones the opportunity to play the full 90 minutes against Northampton last night, something he hasn’t done in a long time.

“It was a nice feeling. It was great to get the win against Nottingham Forest, and tonight it was good to play the 90 minutes.

“I’ve played in League Two and League One, so this is a step up, but I believe in myself. I have a lot to learn still, and with the Gaffer and Adi [Viveash] I’ll be able to learn from two good people.

“It’s exciting and it’s just nice to be back really. I’m willing to learn every single day.”

Next up for Jodi Jones and the Sky Blues is the trip to Barnsley this Saturday, as Mark Robins’ side returns to SkyBet Championship action.
