REPORT: Sky Blues U23 0-0 Swansea U23

The two sides share the points at the Alan Higgs Centre...

19 April 2021

The Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw at the Alan Higgs Centre against Swansea City earlier today.

The Sky Blues started on the front foot and there was an early opportunity for Will Bapaga, but he couldn’t keep his shot down and it sailed over the bar.

The visitors first opportunity came a few moments later and it was a Ryan Bevan free-kick which was low under the wall, but it was dragged wide of Tom Billson’s goal.

Swansea rattled the woodwork with just over ten minutes on the clock and it was Charlie Farr who tried his luck from distance, but he was denied by the post.

The Sky Blues defence had to be alert and it was Jordon Thompson in particular who had to clear a shot off of the line by the Swansea Trialist.

The visitors were fielding several Trialists and it was another who stung the palms of Billson who produced a fine save.

Swans striker Ali Al-Hamadi was causing problems at the back and he looked destined to find the back of the net, but an important Jay McGrath block denied the 19 year old.

The striker was causing trouble and he forced Billson into another good save, this time getting down low to his right to deny the Swans man from the edge of the area.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-0 Swansea City

After the break, it was the Sky Blues who started on the front foot and it was a good run by Wesley Jobello and he slid the ball through for Jack Burroughs, but he dragged his shot wide.

Moments later and it was Jobello’s turn to try and beat Steven Benda, but he was denied not once but twice by the Swansea ‘keeper, who produced some fine saves.

At the other end Swansea centre-back Brandon Cooper missed a guilt edge chance, heading over from around 5 yards out.

There were 15 minutes left on the clock and Jordan Young looked to produce a moment of magic when he looked to bend the ball past Benda with a free-kick from the edge of the area, but his shot whistled past the post.

Tom Billson was called into action for the first time in the second half and he had to get down low to make a great save to deny Mike Murphy.

City pushed for a winner and they almost had it when Jobello’s ball into the box picked out Young at the back post, but his volley was saved by Benda.
