INTERVIEW: Matty James QPR Reaction

James reflected on yesterday's defeat...

3 April 2021

Matty James admitted it was a tough defeat to take after the Sky Blues came away from the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium empty handed.

City found themselves 2-0 down in the first half and James expressed that City cannot afford to be slow out of the blocks.

City started the second half brightly after making a treble substitution but were dealt a blow when the R’s found their third.

He said: “I don’t think fear is a factor, I think a goal early on puts you on the backfoot and like I say we have to play without fear, at the end of the day it is a game of football and we have to be able to react and not go two nil down, three nil down and have got to try to get more stabilised.

“We needed to keep it at one nil and then come out and nick something, maybe we can get a draw and then that is much better. That is something that needs to be worked on quickly.

“We get hit with the third goal and it completely takes the sting out of it, from a corner it is always kind off difficult to take. There is not a lot of time to think about it and hopefully we can get three points at home on Monday.

“It is important when the games come fast so you can put the wrongs right and hopefully, we can do that with a strong performance, be more aggressive and be more on the front foot and be harder to beat.”

City will now turn their focus to Bristol City who they play on Monday and still maintain a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

He said: “The Championship is a tough league, they are not excuses, as it is more the fact of for them it is probably different (on younger players), it is eleven versus eleven regardless and we have got to do more and do better in areas.

“Things change very quickly in football; it is important we get that win quickly and put three points on the board and start to put more pressure on other teams than ourselves.

“Myself as a more experienced player in this team I will try to make sure everyone stays calm and nobody panics. We get that win on Monday and this game hopefully then gets forgotten about, you move onto the next one and our away form that’s the one we need focus on. “
