City claim another pre-season win...

The Sky Blues came away with from St Mary’s with another pre-season win, after they completed a turnaround against Southampton’s Under-23s.

Southampton had taken the lead in the first half through Jake Vokins, but goals from Jonny Ngandu, Max Biamou and David Bremang in the second half ensured victory for the Sky Blues.

It was the hosts who went closest to opening the scoring in the opening 15 minutes and it was Jake Hesketh who tried his luck from around 25-yards-out, but his shot went wide of Marosi’s goal.

The Saints were restricted to shots from distance and it was another effort, this time Callum Slattery who’s shot was deflected behind by Josh Eccles.

Again, with 26 minutes on the clock it was another shot from outside of the box and this time it was Nathan Tella, but Marko Marosi got down well to make the save.

However, the hosts did eventually create an opportunity inside of City’s box and they made it count as Jake Vokins slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Just before the break, Southampton had an opportunity to grab a second through Jake Hesketh, but his curling effort drifted wide.

HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 1-0 SKY BLUES

After the restart the hosts looked to extend their advantage, but a superb Josh Eccles block denied Dan N’Lundulu when he was through on goal.

Next it was Marko Marosi who was called into action and he had to be alert to deny Nathan Tella, after the winger had charged through on goal, as he got a leg to the ball to deny the youngster.

After a triple change on the hour mark, the Sky Blues were back in the game three minutes later and it was one of those changes, Jonny Ngandu, who intercepted a loose pass across the Saints box and fired the ball into the back of the net.

Southampton had a chance to retake the lead but it was wasted by Josh Sims as he sent his shot from inside of the area high and wide.

The Saints would be left to rue their missed opportunities and City took the lead after 76 minutes and it was another substitute, this time Max Biamou who latched onto a Dan Lafferty ball over the top and he slotted it past the ‘keeper.

City would extend that lead with two minutes left on the clock and it came from well worked moved down the left and the ball was eventually whipped in by Brandon Mason and it was David Bremang in the middle who headed home.
