REPORT: Barnsley 0-0 Sky Blues

Goalless at Oakwell this afternoon...

26 September 2020

The Sky Blues had to settle for a draw at Oakwell, with the game ending goalless against Barnsley.

City had the best chance of the game when Leo Ostigard’s header came back off the crossbar in the first half.

It was Marko Marosi was the first ‘keeper to be called into action and it was a comfortable first save for the Slovakian to make, as he held onto Callum Styles’ shot from the edge of the area.

Former City man, Luke Thomas was involved in the hosts next chance, but he didn’t trouble Marko as he dragged his shot from inside of the area wide.

It was City who would go closest to opening the scoring and it came through their first opportunity and it was Leo Ostigard who roses highest to meet a Gustavo Hamer ball into the box, but his header cannoned back off the crossbar.

City took control of the game and were patient in their build-up play and they came close through Ben Sheaf who’s shot from the edge of the area was blocked and then as the ball broke to him again, his second attempt went over the bar.

As the first half went on, Barnsley were restricted to shots from distance and it was Styles again, but this time his shot sailed over the bar.

Barnsley made a change at the break and it was Dominik Frieser who came on and he had the first chance of the second 45, but he was always stretching, and his header went wide.

The Tykes skipper, Alex Mowatt had the best chance of the game for the hosts and it came on the 50th minute mark, but after creating space inside of the area, his shot curled wide.

The Sky Blues were comfortable throughout the next 20 minutes, with Barnsley’s only attempt coming from a Woodrow shot which was blocked by McFadzean.

Tyler Walker came off the bench for City and he had a chance to find an opener following some good work by Callum O’Hare which saw him win the ball back in midfield and pick out Giles wide left and the wing-back found Walker in the box, but the striker’s shot went wide.

With minutes remaining on the clock, Marko had to be alert when he was called into action to deny Cauley Woodrow’s shot inside of the area.
