The Sky Blues 2019/20 Player of the Season, Fankaty Dabo, finally made his return to action on Tuesday night against Solihull Moors.

The defender, alongside fellow teammate, Michael Rose, both started for the first time since March, as they took the next step on their road to recovery.

Speaking after the final whistle, Dabo spoke of his delight to return ahead of the new season.

“I’m so happy.” He said.

“I really am buzzing because nobody wants to be on the side-lines, it’s annoying and it’s difficult watching everyone doing the job you love and you can’t do it, but now I’m back and touch wood I don’t get injured again.”

Dabo played 60 minutes against the National League side and reflected on his performance.

“It was tough, but it was good to be back out on the pitch again and finally playing and it’s just another step in the recovery.

“I ran a bit, but I still feel like there’s more to come. I need to tighten up all my passing and crossing and just get fitter, but it will all to come with match fitness and training.”

Despite returning to training ahead of the game, the defender admitted it has been frustrating watching the sessions whilst in the gym recovering.

“It’s been frustrating because you see the boys working hard and you want be there with them pushing them on and helping one another.

“I’ve missed that because we got promoted together and it’s been a bit distant with me in the physio room and them being out on the grass.

“But now I’m back and it’s a new test and I’m excited to playing the Championship and I’m looking forward to it.”

Fanky has returned to action probably quicker than expected after having an operation on his hip and he had the Sky Blues backroom staff to thank for that.

“It’s all down to the Gaffer and all the Sports Science and Medical team helping me and pushing me on and looking after me and without them I wouldn’t be here where I am.”
