Amadou Bakayoko is “looking forward” to the new season, having helped the Sky Blues defeat Southampton's 23s at St Mary’s on Tuesday afternoon.
City were 3-1 winners on the South Coast, extending their pre-season winning run, with Bakayoko playing from the start.
Goals from Jonny Ngandu, Max Biamou and David Bremang secured victory for the Sky Blues.
Reflecting on the game, Baka was pleased to get more minutes into his legs before the competitive season begins for the Sky Blues this weekend.
Bakayoko said: “It was just about getting more minutes into my legs today, some of the other boys have probably played more minutes than me.
“I thought everyone worked really hard and, in the end, it was a good run out and good result.”
The striker scored twice against Peterborough United last weekend and also found the net against Burton Albion, as he looks to build confidence ahead of the new campaign.
“It’s been good, to score three goals in three games, building fitness and building confidence ahead of the new season, as a team and personally as well.
“I feel good, we’ve been exercising during the period we’ve had off, but we’re getting back to proper match fitness now and games like this help to get you fit for competitive matches.
“Everyone is doing their best and trying to claim their positions, their spot, in the team, everyone’s been working hard because we all want to be starting the first game of the season.”
Baka also believes that the addition of fellow striker Tyler Walker, who signed from Nottingham Forest last week, creates good competition for places in Mark Robins squad, as everyone continues to work hard ahead of the first game of the season.
“It’s been really good, Tyler coming in, it creates good competition, he’s fast, we’ve got different types of striker’s now, there’s four of us as well, which will give the gaffer a lot more to think about.
“It’s all about building together as a team and finding different ways and different formations to change it around if we need to, I’m looking forward to it.”
