The Sky Blues Under-23s suffered defeat at the hands of Millwall earlier this afternoon at the Alan Higgs Centre.
It was the Sky Blues who recorded the first notable chance of the game and it was the man who scored two in the previous outing, David Bremang who was played through by Dan Lafferty, but his shot from a tight angle was saved.
At the other end, a ball across the six yard box from the visitors was a dangerous one and it was cut out by Blaine Rowe, but his touch almost ended in his own net, but Jordon Thompson was on the line to clear.
The visitors came close again on the half hour mark when Nana Boateng got a shot away inside of the area, but he could only find the side netting.
It was City who would go the closest to opening the scoring and it was Marcel Hilssner who’s free-kick forced Joe Wright into an excellent save.
HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-0 Millwall
After the break, the Sky Blues dominated from the off and had a host of chances to take the lead inside the first 15 minutes.
First, some superb build-up play saw the ball fall at the feet of Marcel Hilssner and he dinked the ball over the back four for Jobello and his first timed volley went inches past the post.
Seconds later, David Bremang created space for himself and turned inside of the box to get a shot away, but his effort was saved by Joe Wright.
It was Bremang again when he was released with a through ball which cut through the Millwall defence, but again Wright was there to make the save.
With an hour on the clock, Hilssner almost headed the Sky Blues in front when he rose highest in the box to connect with a Jack Burroughs cross, but he couldn’t find the target.
Aidan Finnegan was introduced and almost found the breakthrough when he was on the end of a Jordan Young cross, but his shot went over the bar.
However, City would be left to rue their missed chances as the visitors took the lead when Nana Boateng found the back of the net from close range.
