NEWS: Sky Blues fitness duo taking part in 10k-a-day challenge supporting Prostate Cancer UK

22 November 2020

Two of Coventry City’s sports science team are again putting their own fitness to the test with a 10k-a-day charity challenge this month!

Head of Sports Science Adam Hearn and Senior Fitness Coach Andy Young are attempting to run 10km (6 ¼ miles) EVERY DAY in November to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.

Adam and Andy join fitness staff from several other clubs in the challenge, which is raising money to fight against Prostate Cancer – the most common Cancer in men, with 1 in 8 men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in their lifetime.

More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, with one man dying from prostate cancer every 45 minutes – that's more than 11,500 men every year.

Adam said: “Following on from our efforts last year, raising over £8,000 between 3 clubs (Coventry, Rotherham, and West Ham Ladies), we are up to around 20 clubs this year and already surpassed the £29,000 mark.

“We’re trying to make the most of the second lockdown. Whilst we’re fortunate enough to carry on working we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to raise money for a great cause and motivate others to keep active during these difficult times.

“We have planned a department run for later this month including our sports scientist Abbie Forman, performance psychologist Lisa O’Halloran and work placement student Jonathan Armour.

“I am also taking part in MOvember to raise awareness for our event, its brilliant that both Jordan Shipley and Dom Hyam are growing a moustache to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer UK and support us.”

As well as cultivating their own facial hair, the Sky Blues team have been supporting the fundraising too, and Adam added:

“The support we’ve received so far is unbelievable. The players have set us challenges, which if achieved will unlock extra donations and we’ve had some of the staff including Abbie Forman and Under 23s Coach Luke Tisdale join us for a run.

“The physio from Norwich is also completing the challenge, so hopefully I’ll get to join him for a run when we play them later this month.”
