MY CCFC XI: Rhys Small chooses his best Sky Blues side

19 May 2020

Rhys Small has chosen his CCFC XI, made up of the best players he has seen play for the Sky Blues.

Rhys' photo is of him with his daughter Isla, his Dad ian and Grandad Arthur Small - four generations together at the Ricoh Arena in December 2018 as Coventry City beat Southend.

Rhys said:

"I think this sums up what football can do for families and especially our family with me being brought up in north London and the only boy wearing a City top all the way through my childhood. The same will occur for my two children."

Explaining his support and that of his family, Rhys explained:

"Our family have been following Cov for years. My Grandad has been following City from the 50s, my Dad's first game was in the 60s and my first game was 1994/1995 season.

"My Granadad lives in Little Heath, my Dad now lives in France but works in the Middle East. Me and my family live in Hertfordshire."

Now Rhys talks us through his selection...

Goalkeeper - Kieran Westwood

Most would say Oggy, but I remember when Westwood played I always backed him to pull off a save out of nowhere and he was consistent and rarely made a mistake. Shame he didn’t play many more games in the Premier League due to injuries.

Right back - Roland Nilsson

Pure class and quality. He was rarely beaten down his side of the pitch.

Centre back - Richard Shaw

A very underrated player for us and even though he was a small centre back he never got bullied by strikers.

Centre back - Mo Konjic

Was a huge fans favourite and left it all on the pitch.

Left back - Danny Fox

Great on set pieces and a threat going forward.

Centre midfield - Gary McAllister

Brilliant on the ball and set pieces. Captain and leader

Right centre midfield - George Boateng

A work horse and the engine room in my midfield.

Left centre midfield – Mustapha Hadji

That creative spark in midfield.

No.10 - James Maddison

The best talent I have seen in a Coventry shirt could go on to be a top quality England regular.

Centre forward - Dion Dublin

To lead the line and be an aerial threat

Centre forward - Robbie Keane

It was a three-way choice for me out of Keane, Huckerby and Wilson. Keane out of the pure excitement he brought to Highfield Road - I remember the fans cheers when he got the ball waiting for him to entertain.
