26 March 2020

Since joining the Sky Blues back in August of 2019, striker Matty Godden has gone on to prove exactly why he was brought to the club.

With 15 goals to his name in all competitions already, Godden has been a key figure in spearheading the Sky Blues charge to the top of League One.

Godden joined from fellow League One side Peterborough United and it was on his first start for City which he opened his account, heading home in a 4-1 win over Exeter City in the Carabao Cup First Round.

The striker's first league goal would come from the spot in the 3-3 draw at Fratton Park against Portsmouth and that was quickly followed by a goals against Oxford United and Blackpool.

After captaining the Sky Blues against Tranmere Rovers, Godden would unfortunately be ruled out through injury until mid-December.

Upon his return, Godden made history when he scored back-to-back hat-tricks away from home against Wycombe Wanderers and Tranmere Rovers.

Matty's next goal came off the bench as he scored a key goal in the 1-0 win over Portsmouth, ending Pompey's winning run of nine consecutive games.

Godden would then begin a run he currently remains on, of four goals in four games, scoring decisive goals against Rotherham United, Rochdale, Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
