Coventry City have agreed with PEC Zwolle the transfer of midfielder Gustavo Hamer, subject to International Clearance and EFL/FA approval.

The 23-year-old becomes the first signing ahead of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship campaign, and joins the Sky Blues from the Dutch Eredivisie side for an undisclosed fee.

Hamer has put-pen-to-paper on a three-year-deal with Mark Robins’ side, seeing him commit his future until July 2023.

The Brazilian-born midfielder moved to Holland as a youngster, signing for Feyenoord, where he rose through the ranks, eventually making his debut against Ajax in 2017.

Following a loan spell with Dordrecht in the Eerste Divisie, Gustavo joined PEC Zwolle, where he made 50 appearances, scoring four goals in two seasons.

Growing up in Holland, Hamer has also gone on to represent the Dutch at youth level, featuring for their under-18s and under-20s.

Following the completion of the deal, City boss Mark Robins had this to say about securing the signature of Hamer:

“We’re delighted to announce the signing of Gustavo, who is a quality addition to our squad ahead of our return to the Championship and is a player our recruitment team has been monitoring closely for some time.

“He’s a creative, two-footed midfielder with great technical ability but is also a tenacious and determined player as well in the centre of the midfield.

“We are looking forward to working with Gustavo and continuing our work ahead of next season.”
