MY CCFC XI: Sky Blues fan Steve Swift selects his best side!

23 July 2020

Steve Swift is the next fans to choose his CCFC XI - a team made up of the best players he has seen in action while supporting the Sky Blues.

Steve is pictured at the Sunderland game in March, having come over from Sydney where he has have lived for 40 years.

Steve said: "The Sky Blues along with the Sydney Roosters (Rugby League) are my absolute passion and could not be happier now we are back in the Championship."

Sharing his memories of supporting the Club, Steve said: "As a Radford boy growing up we would catch the No 14 bus from the bottom of Lydgate Road straight to Highfield Road and stand on the Spion Kop with rattle in hand for 'Glad all over' and proudly wearing your latest badge or rosette - absolutely magical as a youngster.

"My earliest memories are George Hudson scoring winner to take us up from Division 3, Wolves 3-1 game and of course the Donkey kick."

Now Steve talks us through his selections...

Manager

Even though Mark Robins may go on, it has to be Jimmy Hill - with honourable mention to Bobby Gould and Noel Cantwell.

Goalkeeper

Bill Glazier unbelievably at one time the world's most expensive goalkeeper and we used to sing ”Glazier's better than Yashin “

Fullbacks

Mick Coop and Dietmar Bruck - cannot remember either having an off day and a penalty taker thrown in.

Centre Backs

George Curtis and Alan Dugdale - I like my defenders chunky and if one did not get you the other would. Also saw Dennis Law live and he said when asked that Curtis was not only the hardest player he met but the most feared “that will do me”

Wide players

Ernie Hannigan and without doubt City’s finest Mr T. Hutchinson - without peer.

Centre Midfield

Ian “Gibbo” Gibson money would not buy him these days and please forgive me Dennis Mortimore pure class but lost his way ahem!

Strikers

Bobby Gould “ better than Eusebio “ and at one time the next Jimmy Greaves Alan Green.

So many to mention but Ronnie Rees,Ernie Machin, Colin Stein ,John Tudor, Fergie and Wallace, Andy Blair will do for a start.
