MY CCFC XI: Sky Blues fan Phil Knowles selects his best side!

29 July 2020

Phil Knowles is the next Coventry City fan to select his best Sky Blues XI.

Phil said: "My first Coventry game was when I was 5 years old, a 2-1 home win vs Norwich – 26th March 1994. I think Chris Sutton broke his nose during that game and even Gary Megson was playing for them! I’ve been travelling up from Hampshire ever since."

Phil has selected the best players he has seen wearing the Sky Blues shirt. It's an attacking line-up, and now he talks us through his selection...

GK – Steve Ogrizovic

Has to be Oggy! There is simply no other choice! Saved us from relegation with some heroics on multiple occasions

RB – Mo Konjic

I know he isn’t a RB, but I’ve got to get Big Mo in the team! 100% unit. “He comes from Bosnia….” you know the rest…

CB – Paul Williams

Willo! Solid at the back and who can forget that thunderbolt vs Newcastle. Shay Given had no chance.

CB – Richard Shaw

Absolute legend, similar to Oggy in that his solid performances definitely helped keep us up multiple times.

LB – Marcus Hall

So good we signed him twice. I don’t think I ever saw him have a bad performance.

RM – Peter Ndlovu

Nuddy – one of the most skilful players we have ever had. Could go past anyone like they weren’t there. I remember before a game when I was 6 or 7 years old he high fived me before the game. Hero.

CM – Gary McAllister

The most cultured player I think we have had. Could ping the ball 40 yards and create opportunities. Always looked so calm on the ball and created an endless amounts of assists.

CM – James Maddison

Shame we couldn’t keep hold of him for longer. Has gone on to do great things and win England caps – scored some worldy free kicks for us and a couple of last minute winners too!

LM – Darren Huckerby

Pretty simple really: That goal vs Man Utd...

ST – Robbie Keane

One season, but what a season. Some class goals, particularly the hooked volley vs Arsenal on boxing day when we beat them 3-2. My old man is a wolves fan so it was nice to take him from them!

ST – Callum Wilson

It would be Dion but I am still a little bit heartbroken from when he went to Villa.

Manager – Mark Robins – give the man a statue already!

Subs

1 – Magnus Hedman

2 – Dion Dublin

3 - Marc McNulty

4 – George Boateng

5 – Noel Whelan

6 – Gary McSheffrey

7 – Mick Quinn

8 – Fankaty Dabo
