MY CCFC XI: Reuben Messam decides his best Sky Blues side!

8 July 2020

Reuben Messam is the next Coventry City fan to pick his best XI!

Reuben explained, "My first game was unfortunately the 5-0  home defeat to West Brom in 2008 but I’ve been hooked on the Sky Blues ever since, travelling up from Bedfordshire To most home games."

Reuben has been considering his best side that he has seen in action, and now he talks us through his selection...

Goalkeeper - Keiren Westwood

Saved us so many times in the Championship era. Some of the saves he did was unbelievable. Should of played more games in the Premier League, top class GK

Right Back - Jack Grimmer

Played a very strong part in the League Two promotion season. Was easily the best fullback in that league that season. Also scored 2 absolute rockets against Stoke and in the Play-Off final against Exeter.

Centre-Back - Reda Johnson

Although he had many injuries when he was fully fit he was an absolute Rock at the back and I don’t think he ever missed a header.

Centre-Back - Scott Dann

He was such a talent for us always felt reassured when he was playing for us never really had a mistake in him. Remember going absolutely mental when he scored in the last minute against Newcastle down at the Ricoh.

Left-Back - Chris Stokes

Was a solid player for us.Always had so much pride in playing for us. Played unbelievably for us in the two Wembley trips, one of which he was half fit and playing at centre half!

Centre-Midfield - John Fleck

Every season he would improve even more his passing was brilliant,he could defend and his Long shots where great. Now proving he is a premier league quality player.

Central Defensive Midfield - Michael Doyle

Captain. Leader. LEGEND. Simple

Central Attacking Midfield - Franck Moussa

Seems that city got the best out of the Belgian. Would score 5 or 6 stupendous goals each season. Had brilliant ball ability

Centre Midfield - Tom Bayliss

Saw him play for the Under 18s in the FA youth cup and was a class apart that night. When he first played for the first team, knew he was good but didn’t realise he was that good. When he would start running at teams you just knew players would not tackle him. One of the very good players to come through our fab Academy

Striker - Adam Armstrong

One of our best loans! that first half the season he had at the club he was great, he would never stop running  and you could bank that he would score. Deserved the 20 goals he scored. Very humble player and has ripped it up in the championship for Blackburn.

Striker - Marc McNulty

The opposite to Armstrong. Started off slow but by the end of the season every fan including myself was in love with the bloke. Scored so many vital goals for us and a MOTM performance at Wembley gaining two assists.

Manager - Mark Robins

He’s a living Sky Blues legend! Took the club from a dark time and brought light to it. He loves the club. The club loves him. Should have a knighthood!
