REPORT: Sky Blues 1-1 Cardiff City

City held to a score draw...

20 January 2020

The Sky Blues were held to a score draw against Cardiff City at the Alan Higgs Centre.

The visitors took the lead just after the restart in the second half, before Jordan Ponticelli came off the bench to grab an equaliser.

The Sky Blues enjoyed possession in the early stages of the game, troubling the Cardiff defence through set-pieces, wit the visitors finding it difficult to clear their lines at times.

However, it was the visitors who went closest to opening the scoring through Sam Bowen, but his effort from outside of the box came back off the woodwork.

Mark Harris was the next man to try his luck from distance for the Bluebirds, but he couldn’t better Bowen’s shot as his effort went over the bar.

The Sky Blues looked to exploit Cardiff down the left and it was Joe Newton who’s chipped ball into the box was aimed for Bakayoko, but was punched by the ‘keeper into the path of Josh Pask, but his shot was saved.

From the resulting corner, Jodi Jones picked out the run of Pask and he rose highest but couldn’t steer his header towards goal.

The last chance of the game fell to City striker Bakayoko, as he let fire from 30-yards-out but it was a comfortable save for the Cardiff ‘keeper.

After the break the visitors took the lead after almost 60 seconds when Sam Bowen slotted past Ben Wilson from inside the box.

Wilson was called into action again as he made two saves in quick succession one from Jake Evans from distance and then from the resulting corner he denied Bowen again.

However, Cardiff would be left to rue their missed opportunities as City equalised through Jordan Ponticelli as his half-volley from inside the area found the back of the net.

Minutes after the Sky Blues drew level, Mark Harris forced Wilson into another strong save as he tipped over the bar to keep the scores at 1-1.

The Sky Blues almost completed turnaround through Jordan Young when his header was tipped over the bar.

That would prove to be the Sky Blues best opportunity of finding a winner before the full-time whistle, as Tisdale’s side were forced to settle for a point.
