REPORT: Sky Blues 0-2 Queens Park Rangers

3 February 2020

The Sky Blues suffered defeat at the Alan Higgs Centre to Queens Park Rangers in the Professional Development League.

Two goals either side of half-time were enough for the visitors as Jonathan Dinzeyi and Arimide Oteh found the back of the net.

The first shot of the game came within the first minutes when Arimide Oteh found space down the right and got a shot away, but his effort lacked conviction and it was comfortable for Billson.

It was an open game early on and some good work by Charlie Wakefield enabled him to tee up Jodi Jones from outside of the area, but he couldn’t keep his shot under the bar.

City continued to press and another shot from distance fell for Gervane Kastaneer, but it was a similar end product to Jones, with his shot going over the bar.

However, despite the Sky Blues threatening the opposition goal, it was the visitors who took the lead through Jonathan Dinzeyi as he headed home at the back post from a corner.

Chances were few and far between after the opening goal of the game as City looked to get back on level terms, with the best chance coming when Wakefield broke out from the back, but was hurled down, with the referee waving the foul away, then booking the winger for his protests.

After the break, City began to press and it was only the woodwork in the way of Kastaneer making it 1-1, as his shot from the edge of the box deflected into the bar.

However, City would be left to rue their missed opportunities as QPR doubled their lead through Arimide Oteh who found the back of net from inside the area.

City looked to fight back and some work down the right released Jack Burroughs and he looked to place it past Lumley, but he got down low to make the stop.

Lumley was called into action against moments later as he was sprawling across goal to tip Will Bapaga’s shot from distance around the post.

Winger, Deschane Darling also went close from distance for the Hoops, as from a tight angle he curled a shot inches past the post.

Morgan Williams came close to pulling one back as he was on the end of Bouwe Bosma’s header back across goal, but he couldn’t steer his shot towards goal.

Tom Billson produced a fine save from distance as he had to dive to his right to deny Jake Frailing from making it three.
