Sky Blues come from behind to secure win...

21 February 2020

The Sky Blues Under-23s came from behind to secure all three points against Bristol City in the Professional Development League.

It was the visitors who started the better of the two sides and after several balls into the box, Freddie Hinds was on the end of a cross, but his effort went wide from inside of the box.

However, Hinds did open the scoring when Bristol were awarded an indirect free-kick after a Bouwe Bosma pass back was collected by Tom Billson and then Hinds stepped up and found the back of the net.

City looked to get back into the game and went close when Will Bapaga found space, but he looked for goal and his shot went inches past the post.

The Robins had only Harvey Wiles-Richards to thank for the scores staying level as he got down low to his left to deny Jordan Young drawing the scores level.

The Sky Blues continued to push for an equaliser and a ball into the box by Brandon Mason was net by the head of Hiwula, but he was unable to steer his header on target.

City then found joy down the right when a defence splitting pass by Josh Eccles released Charlie Wakefield and his cross found Hiwula, but his effort went wide of the goal.

Luke Tisdale’s side continued to push for a leveller before the break but chances were few and far between in the final five minutes of the half.

After the break the first opportunity fell for Jodi Jones who cut in from the right onto his left, but his shot was saved by the Bristol ‘keeper.

The winger continued to be a threat in the Bristol defence and his next opportunity was similar to his previous five minutes earlier, but this time his shot went over the bar.

The Robins defence continued to back off Jodi and the winger was finding joy down the right cutting onto his left and this time he forced the ‘keeper into a good stop.

Billson was called into action moments later for the first time in the second half and he had to get down low down to bus right to deny Vince Harper from doubling the visitors lead.

City’s quest for an equaliser in the game continued and they almost found it when a spectacular volley from outside of the box by Will Bapaga whistled past the crossbar.

The goal eventually came and it was through an unlikely source as a ball into the box was cleared only as far as Bouwe Bosma, who took a touch and smashed the ball into the back of the net.

City then almost took the lead when Bapaga got a shot away, but his effort went into the side netting.

Billson was then forced into action and it was great save from close range to keep the scores level.

City then made a change and it was Bremang who came on for Jones and he was played through on goal and his shot was saved by the Bristol ‘keeper.

With five minutes remaining an outrageous shot from distance by Gervane Kastaneer produced an amazing save by the ‘keeper as he tipped the shot over the bar.

However, from the resulting corner Young was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded and it was captain Josh Eccles who stepped up and he sent the keeper the wrong way and put City in front.
