INTERVIEW: "We’re in a really good position"

City host 4th placed Sunderland this weekend...

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins told press yesterday that he would have ‘snatched your hand off’ to be in this position in League One.

City are currently 2nd and sit behind Rotherham United by goal difference only heading into this weekend’s clash with 4th placed Sunderland.

However, Robins told how there is no pressure on his side to finish anywhere this season, as they continue to take each game at a time.

“For me it’s absolutely no concern whatsoever, we’ve got twelve games to go and if we can win eight of them, we’ve got a right chance of getting up automatically.

“If we can pick up two points a game, but there’s a lot of team saying the same thing, if we can do the same, we’re still in a really good position.

“If you’d have offered me this at the start of the season, I’d have snatched your hand off, so I just want us to enjoy it.

“I felt the start of the game the other night was a little but nervy, but I thought they were so it’s going to be really interesting to see who can hold their nerve and come out on top.

“Should we get into the play-offs, even that’s a massively successful season, but that’s just speculation, you can talk about it and look at things and I think it’s human nature that you start looking at the table and who other teams are playing and everybody’s got the same sort of fixtures, you can look at it and think they’ve got an easy run in but there’s no such thing.”

The battle for the automatic places and for a place in the play-offs continues to heat up with only a handful of games remaining, but the Sky Blues are purely focused on themselves.

“I think you can look into it too much from our point of view.” He said.

“There’s a level of expectation at other clubs that are probably bigger clubs and certainly been in better positions than us more recently and does that have a bearing, who knows but all we’ve got to do is focus on us, everything else is speculation and everything else is conjecture and designed to take your mind off what you should be focusing on.

“For me we just need to focus on what we’re doing.”

The Sky Blues took on Rotherham United on Tuesday night and then played a behind closed doors friendly on Wednesday night in preparation for the clash with Sunderland.

“We had a game behind closed doors, and some played so we’ll have a look this morning and see where we are.

“We’ve got a couple of days to prepare for this game and everyone’s looking forward to it and that’s the biggest thing, looking forward to the game, show absolutely no fear whatsoever and just go for it, we have to go for things in the last 12 games.

“It’s not a long time, but we have quite a lot of games but not a long time to wait to find out what’s at the end of it but don’t lose focus on what we’re doing, game by game I think it’s really important to remain focused but it’s exciting and I think it’s exciting for everybody.”
