The Sky Blues bounced back from their FA Youth Cup defeat to Southampton with a 2-0 win over Hull City at the Alan Higgs centre in midweek.

Speaking after the game Chay Thompson said: “It’s a great response from the disappointment last week in the Youth Cup, we took that quite hard, but the lads bounced back and worked really hard.

“We said it was going to be a different sort of challenge for them today, Hull are quite direct. It was good character again we are just disappointed it weren’t more but as I said, we’re delighted with the win and we’ve got one more game for the Christmas period now so hopefully we can get back-to-back wins.

“It was a great learning game last week because we didn’t perform nowhere near our level. So, we went back to basics this week and emphasised passing the ball running hard, getting around the seconds, and tidying the game up in good areas.

“We did that today we worked so hard, we won our battles and showed our class when we needed to.”

City also saw the return of left-back Finn O’Brien who has been out with injury return against the Tigers at the Alan Higgs Centre.

“It’s his first game back since the season opener. I thought he was outstanding, he defended well. He saved a goal at 1-0 in a key moment of the game so overall he was excellent. “

Speaking on the last game before Christmas way to Nottingham Forest, Thompson said:

“It’s a good one for us, we set a challenge after the Youth Cup defeat to win back-to-back games before Christmas and get ourselves higher in the league because I think we are underachieving a bit.

“It’s another game we can go to and have a good go at and hopefully we will be going into the Christmas period, we are all ready for, with 6 points from our last two games. “
