REPORT: MK Dons 2-3 Sky Blues

City secure victory at Stadium:MK...

22 August 2020

The Sky Blues picked up a win on the road in pre-season, as they beat MK Dons at Stadium:MK this afternoon.

Matty Godden scored a brace and Callum O’Hare scored his first of pre-season as Mark Robins side came away with a 3-2 win.

It took just under four minutes for the Sky Blues to open the scoring and it was Callum O’Hare who found the run of Jamie Allen and the midfielder played a superb ball across the box for Matty Godden to slot past Laurie Walker.

After the opening goal, the game settled and both sides looked to battle for possession, with few chances to speak of other than the goal with 20 minutes on the clock.

However, minutes later the Sky Blues could count themselves unlucky not to have a second when Callum O’Hare’s shot came back off the post. Dom Hyam initially won the ball back down the left and it was then Jamie Allen who found O’Hare in space, but his shot from 20 yards-out struck woodwork.

O’Hare was instrumental in City’s next attack, as he played a one-two with Godden and got a shot away from inside of the box, but his effort went over the bar.

It was third time lucky for Callum as he eventually got on the scoresheet seconds later and it was the same combination of a one-two between Godden and he found the back of the net with a strike from the edge of the area.

City continued to look to add to the score-line and this time it was Jordan Shipley with a chance from the edge of the area, but his effort went wide.

Five minutes before the break, the hosts got themselves a goal back when Jay Bird intercepted a loose pass and curled the ball past Ben Wilson.

But Mark Robins side didn’t let up there, they continued to push to restore their two goal lead and they almost had it when Matty Godden beat the offside trap, but his shot was saved well by Walker in the MK goal.

From the resulting corner, Jordan Shipley drilled a shot wide and then as Walker looked to play out from the back for MK, O’Hare won the ball back and found Godden, who this time made no mistake in bagging his second and City’s third.

HALF-TIME: MK DONS 1-3 SKY BLUES

The hosts made six changes at the break, introducing some more experience in their ranks for the second half.

With 15 minutes gone, Ben Wilson was called into action with a superb save from point blank range to deny Sam Nombe.

From the resulting corner, the ‘keeper was called into action again, as this time it was a ball whipped in towards the back post and it was Jordan Houghton’s header which Wilson had to get a hand to.

MK did get another goal back when a dangerous ball across the six-yard box was put into the Sky Blues net by Kyle McFadzean.

Gustavo Hamer looked to regain the two-goal lead as he won the ball back in midfield and had a go from distance, but his effort went over the bar.
