REPORT 2: Peterborough 2-3 Sky Blues

City make it 2 from 2 against Peterborough...

29 August 2020

The Sky Blues made it two out of two against Peterborough United, securing victory in the second game of the afternoon.

Amadou Bakayoko bagged a brace and Jodi Jones scored superb solo effort, as City secured a 3-2 win at the Weston Homes Stadium.

It was a quiet start to proceedings, with the first chance of the game not coming until the 16th minutes when Josh Eccles played a ball over the top for Amadou Bakayoko, but his shot was blocked.

Moments later it would be the same combination which would result in the Sky Blues taking the lead as Eccles picked out Bakayoko and he fired the ball into the back of the net.

Although the lead wouldn’t last long as Peterborough found a leveller when Ricky-Jade Jones manage to snatch the ball off Ben Wilson.

City looked for an immediate response when Josh Eccles tried his luck from distance, but he sent his shot over the bar.

The Sky Blues appealed for a penalty when Will Bapaga was brought down, but the referee adjudged the challenge to have been outside of the box and it was Jodi Jones who stepped up to take the free-kick and he forced the ‘keeper into a good stop.

From the resulting corner, Jordon Thompson saw his header go wide after he had rose highest in the box.

Just before the break, Will Bapaga worked his way into the box, after some good work by Brandon Mason prior, and he managed to get a shot away, but Gyollai saved well.

HALF-TIME: PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1-1 SKY BLUES

After a similar start to the second half as it was the first half, the game burst into life on the hour mark and it was in City’s favour.

Liam Kelly played a ball over the top and it was chased down by Jodi Jones and with the ball at his feet by the touch line, he beat his man, cut inside and curled a superb strike into the bottom corner to give City the lead.

Then minutes later, that lead was doubled and it was substitute Gervane Kastaneer who made an immediate impact as he played a fantastic ball into the box for Bakayoko to grab his second of the game.

The hosts did pull one back and it was Mo Eisa who got on the end of a ball in the box and found Ben Wilson’s bottom corner.
