Midfielder, Jordan Shipley was on the scoresheet on Tuesday afternoon, as the Sky Blues took on Wolves U23s at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

City were held to a 1-1 draw against the Premier League’s youngsters, with Shipley equalising for the Sky Blues at the start of the second half.

The fixture was another opportunity to get minutes into the legs of Mark Robins side and reflecting on the game, Shipley reiterated that point.

“It was good.” He said.

“Obviously it was about building fitness up and the result wasn’t the main thing, its about building up the fitness towards the start of the season.

“They had a few good players and it was a good test for us to be honest and I thought we did well and we got on the ball and controlled the game.

“They had a few chances, but we had our chances and we could’ve won the game, but like I said it’s all about fitness.”

Shipley was on the scoresheet in the game for the first time since his strike from outside of the box against Doncaster Rovers back in January.

The midfielder’s goal against Wolves had a touch of that previous strike about it and Shipley told how he is looking to replicate it once more.

“It’s always nice to score a goal, even in pre-season and I do like to score from outside of the box and it’s all about getting in those positions and replicating it when the big games come around and hopefully take my chances.”

Shipley was one of the more experienced players in the first half, with several youngsters getting some minutes into their legs.

“It was a little bit different for me, being one of the older heads in the first half, it was different, but I enjoyed helping some of the younger lads through the game.

“We’ve got some good young players coming through and its exciting for us and I thought they had done really well in the first half.”
