Gustavo Hamer is “enjoying” his start to life at the Sky Blues after playing in their 2-1 win against Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.

City took the lead through Matty Godden, but were pegged back by a Ryan Broom strike in the second half, before Callum O’Hare secured a third successive pre-season win for the Sky Blues late on in the tie.

Arriving from Dutch side PEC Zwolle earlier this summer, Hamer was pleased to get 90 minutes under his belt at the Weston Homes Stadium as he continues to adapt to English football.

Hamer said: “It was good to win, we’re one game closer to starting the season before we play MK Dons, everybody wants to play 90 minutes, everybody needs to be fit for the start of the season.

“I’m enjoying here a lot so far, I love to play football, we’re playing two games a week now which is good, we train hard and we do our best, it’s not the same as in the Netherlands because it rains more, but it’s good.

“The tempo is higher, in England, and it’s harder physically which is good, that’s what I love, they are probably the two biggest differences compared to the Netherlands.”

The 23-year-old feels the intensity of the Sky Blues training and pre-season matches is helping him become more familiar with his teammates as the new season draws ever nearer.

“The holding midfield role is the same as I played before in the Netherlands, that’s good, I know what I have to do and it’s a good combination with Shipperz as well.

“We train a lot with each other and play a lot of games, so we’re getting to know each other better and you start to know the movements better which is good because I’m new, but I’m getting used to it now.”

Hamer has been taking the majority of City’s set-pieces during pre-season and is hoping to contribute to plenty of goals from dead ball situations this coming season.

“I like to take set-pieces as well, I have the opportunity to take them, I’ll do my best and I hope to score and create a lot of goals from set-pieces this season.

“It’s been a long pre-season, I can’t wait to finally start the season now in a week’s time, we’re ready.”
