ON THIS DAY: Coventry City played their final game at Highfield Road

30 April 2020

Coventry City played their final game at Highfield Road on this day in 2005.

The stadium was the Club's home from 1899 to 2005 and the final game took place on 30th April 2005 against Derby County, when City ran out 6-2 winners.

The hosts were 4-0 ahead by half-time through a brace from Gary McSheffrey, Dele Adebola's individual effort and Stern John's header from a corner.

Derby hit back through Adam Bolder in the second-half, but John restored the four-goal advantage with a finish from a tight angle.

The honour of scoring the final competitive goal at the stadium fell to Andy Whing - the ball fell to the substitute on the edge of the box, and he fired the ball into the roof of the net.

22,728 were in attendance in a sell-out crowd, and pre-match they were treated to an parade of legends - culminating in Jimmy Hill leading fans in signing the Sky Blue Song.

On Saturday we streamed the full 90 minutes of action from the game, plus post-match scenes, and you can watch it again below.
