Mike Smith is the next Sky Blues fan to choose his best Coventry City XI!
Mike lives in Berkshire, and saw his first game in 1985!
He made the trip to support the Sky Blues for many years with his late father for years and along with his sister too.
In a 4-3-3 formation, Mike talks us through his best XI...
1. Steve Ogrizovic
Can’t really go for anyone else, club record appearance maker and all round Cov legend
2. Roland Nilsson
Simply a wonderful wonderful player, made the game look absolutely effortless, he looked like a bloke who worked in a bank but wow what a player, tough on Brian Borrows who was also an exceptional player.
3. Danny Fox
Only standout left back as i didn’t get to see much of Stuart Pearce, he was part of the team that should have been promoted under Chris Coleman
4.Dean Emerson
Really unlucky with injury sustained pre the cup final, was going on to be a superb player, tough tackling midfield player that would allow my ball playing midfielders time to play
5. Trevor Peake
Again a stalwart and hero of 1987, undoubtedly unlucky like Oggy not to be picked to play for England and would have done had he played in a more fashionable side
6. Gary Gillespie
There is a reason the great Liverpool side bought him!
7. Gary McAllister
A player who I loved watching and whilst probably past his best still made our midfield work
8. Dennis Wise
Again at the end of his career but loved his ball playing ability and his willingness to have a fight for the cause wish i had been able to see him more in Sky Blue!
9. Dion Dublin
Beast of a centre forward, scorer of many many goals, could leave him out, best number 9 we’ve had in living memory, gutted he signed for them up the road :(
10. Robbie Keane
Remember watching his debut, his movement, finishing, his class was evident from that day!
11. David Speedie
Saved the best till last, my all time favourite player and still the only player i saw make the main stand at Highfield road stand to applaud as one for one of his many chipped goals. I was absolutely distraught when we sold him to Liverpool.
