MY CCFC XI: Andi Robinson picks the best Sky Blues side he has seen play!

3 April 2020

This time, it is Coventry City fan Andi Robinson who is picking is best XI!

Andi Robbo has supported City for 18 years, 17 of which has been as a Season Ticket holder and for the last 6 years he has volunteered in the Family Zone.

Now, he talks us through his team...

Manager: Andi Robbo

Supported for: 18 years

Goalkeeper - Kieran Westwood

Was a key player for us and was personally responsible for keeping us in the Championship longer than our investment probably should have with his point saving performances.

Right Back - Jordan Willis

Another that helped us rebuild in League 2 at a time he could have easily followed others in demanding transfers. I don’t think Jordon gets the respect he deserves for just what he did here due to his current choice of clubs.

Central Defenders – Mo Konjic (below) and Scott Dann

Mo Konjic - natural leader and human tank, Mo was Bosnia’s answer to a brick wall in my early days as a City fan. At 12 years old Mo was very easy to love they simply don’t make defenders like him anymore.

Scott Dann - very gifted at a young age you have to be special to be captain at 21 I always felt Scott was going to lead out England one day, sadly that never came to be but he was brilliant here part of a duo we absolutely stole from Walsall

Left Back – Danny Fox

The other half of that duo very talented and a free kick wizard I don’t believe we’ve had a left back in my time as a City fan that can even come close to matching him for talent or skill, sadly he was ruined north of the border or his career could have been special.

Midfielders

Dennis Wise - it was well after his prime but what a treat it was to watch Dennis Wise pull on a City shirt same could be said for Joe Cole, but with Wisey we got something a little special he dragged a team that looked in for a relegation battle and had us flying up the league into our highest finish since I’ve supported the City. I also believe his leadership then rubbed off on a younger Michael Doyle and set the foundations for the role he played upon his return in 2017.

Michael Doyle - massively overdue a testimonial should we ever get our own stadium that’s the game that should open it. From cocky kid to natural leader, Doyler did well by us and lead us at a time we needed it most on the field.

Gary McAllister - the reason I got tickets to my first city game (Mum fancied him).  Cool under pressure and my first manager of many as a Cty fan, I never got to see his best football for City but he holds a special place with me as 18 years following City together has brought me and my Mum closer (pretty sure she still fancies him)

Forwards

Gary McSheffrey - the Sky Blue kid that looked set to conquer the world when I was a teenager falling in love with the City, sadly he took his talents to Birmingham and it got them promoted instead but I still remember the Sky blue kid fondly.

Marc McNulty - the right player at the right time hitting the right form to help raise us off our knees in the bottom tier, helping to lay the foundations for what we have built now even though he’s no longer part of it.

Callum Wilson - a sad case of a wonderful player most didn’t get to see play live due to circumstances off the field. For anyone that did get to see him, he was a very unselfish striker who bagged 20 but could have easily scored 30 if he hadn’t been so happy to pass off to Leon Clarke in the first half of the season.
