Godden starts 2020 how he ended 2019...

8 April 2020

It was a case of Déjà vu in the opening game of the New Year, as Matty Godden entered 2020 how he had ended 2019.

City were on the road again on New Year's Day and it was another 4-1 win, this time against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Godden opened the scoring before Jordan Shipley made it two and then despite Rovers pulling one back, City extended their lead further as the man of the moment scored his second and third.

After progessing in the FA Cup against League One opposition the previous month, in the third round it was a familair site as this time it was Bristol Rovers who stood in City's way and after Liam Walsh scored a brace at the Memorial Stadium, the Sky Blues were forced to settle for a replay.

City were back in League One action before their replay as MK Dons were in town, but City were pegged back late on after Sam McCallum had put the Sky Blues in front early on.

In the replay, the Sky Blues comfortably strolled into the Fourth Round, beating the Gas 3-0 with goals coming from Josh Pask on debut and a brace for Max Biamou.

Mark Robins side were back on the road next in League One and it was a superb performance at the Keepmoat Stadium which saw City earn all three points thanks to a long range effort from Shipley.

Back to the FA Cup next, and it was a unique occasion at St Andrew's on 25th January as City hosted Birmingham City in what was a close fought battle, in which neither side were able to break the deadlock, in front of a crowd of over 21,000.

In the final game of the month, the Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw at Highbury Stadium against Fleetwood Town.
