Sky Blues youngster, Tom Billson admitted the experience he is getting out on loan with Barwell at the moment is ‘priceless’.

The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Sky Blues last season, as he made the step-up from Academy football.

After starting the season in goal for the Under-23s, Billson departed on his first loan spell, linking up with Southern League Premier Division Central side, Barwell.

The ‘keeper made his league debut in a 3-2 win last weekend and the ‘keeper spoke of his delight at being able to get minutes under his belt.

He said: “I’ve gone out on loan myself now and it just gives me a chance to work on different things.

“I play the 23s games and its very much passing and playing out from the back and then go and play a non-league game and it’s about going long a lot and coming for crosses.

“It’s just the best of both worlds and developing every area of my game.

“I think it’s priceless. It gives me a real chance to grow up and go into a changing room where I don’t know everyone, don’t know the coaches and still go in and hopefully be able to perform.

“Like I said its best of both worlds playing a little bit of 23s and then a little bit of men’s football as well.”

The ‘keeper was part of a new set-up for the 2019/20 season, which saw Marko Marosi and Ben Wilson join the Sky Blues.

There was also a new arrival as Head of Goalkeeping, as Aled Williams joined the club, replacing the outgoing Steve Ogrizovic.

Billson told how Williams has helped him to improve his game and has offered different ideas of doing things, which he has taken into his game.

“I spoke with Aled a lot recently about making sure I’m proactive in the game, you know you’re always doing something and almost when you’re called upon it comes naturally.

“He’s offered a load of different ideas, in terms of just little things like the way I set and my mindset.

“He speaks a lot about playing, our angles off the ball and I think I’m starting to embed that into my game a little bit.”
