After Tuesday evenings penalty shootout victory, Tennai Watson expressed his delight as he made his full debut for the Sky Blues.

Signing on loan from Reading, Watson made his debut at Oxford however the defender played a full 90 minutes on Tuesday evening something he was keen to do sooner rather than later.

Watson said: “It was great to get my first 90 minutes playing with the boys.

“Everything happened so fast, the signing, then being on the bench, then starting but I love that.

“I love the opportunity to get right in with the lads and obviously the gaffer gave me that."

Watson impressed on his full debut with a clean sheet and scoring the winning penalty in the shootout and hopes to build on Tuesdays performance.

“As a whole I think we defended well from the strikers all the way to the goalkeeper.

“We had chances and could have scored but I think it was a good game and we deserved something out of it because we played well.”

After spending last campaign on loan at AFC Wimbledon, Wilson was keen to link up with the Sky Blues after seeing the team first hand last season.

Watson said: “Straight away when I heard about the interest I thought Coventry is a massive club with a lot of history behind it and after playing last season in League One I knew the style and had a sense of what the philosophy was here.

“I feel like it fits some of my attributes and how I like to play football so it was really appealing and I jumped at the opportunity.”

With Saturday’s fixture against Blackpool on the horizon, Watson is raring to go if he is called upon by the manger.

He said: “I feel like there is a chance for me to play but until that opportunity comes, I will give it all I can to try and play as many minutes as possible.

“I want to help the team any way I can and that’s my main aim at the moment.”
