The Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw in their opening Leasing.com Trophy group game against Walsall at St Andrew's.
City made ten changes to the game and gave first starts of the season to Tennai Watson, Morgan Williams, Dan Bartlett and Charlie Wakefield.
The Sky Blues secured a bonus point with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win, with Watson scoring the winning penalty.
