INTERVIEW: Robins reflects on first Sky Bet League One defeat

City went down 4-0 at Rotherham...

The Sky Blues suffered their first Sky Bet League One defeat on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by Rotherham.

Robins’ side went into the game without suffering defeat in their first ten games however Robins admitted that his side were not good enough defensively today.

Robins said: “We created some good chances but defensively we were not good enough.

“It is a work in progress and we have got plenty of lessons to learn from this game so we will be back at it on Monday with a game on Tuesday thankfully to get this one out of our system.”

Despite the defeat, Robins was keen to use the game as a lesson for his players going forward into the season.

He said: “Again there are a lot of lessons to be learnt from the game: we need to find a way out with the ball; we need to find a way to stay confident and stay positive because a lot of the passes were negative and there was a lot of mistakes made and we have given them the game.

“There is a lot of disappointment but its early days and these set backs will test you.
To get to this stage unbeaten is good but it is just the manner of the defeat but again we can learn from it.”

The Sky Blues failed to find the back of the net during the game, however Robins admitted the game could have had any number of goals.

Robins said: “There were a lot of mistakes from both teams, they could have had eight goals and we could have had four, I feel that’s a reasonable synopsis of how many chances we had.

“It was a skiddy surface, people losing their feet sort of contributed to some of the mistakes but we can’t do what we have done today and lost confidence.

“You talk about confidence ebbing and flowing and it really did today. We have not worked hard enough to get on the ball and we have not worked hard enough to make angles.”

The Sky Blues face Forest Green in the Leasing.com Trophy and Tuesday and Robins is hoping his side can put Saturdays defeat behind them.

“We have got to find a way to get back on it and thankfully we have a game on Tuesday to put it right.

“It’s not easy when you think you have cracked it because it can kick you in the teeth and it certainly gave us a swift kick today.”
