The Coventry City striker came out top on a shortlist of five to become this season’s first Player of the Round winner
Following the completion of the Round One group stages of the 2019/20 Leasing.com Trophy, Coventry City’s Maxime Biamou has been named as the player of the round. Fans were given the chance to vote for the player who they thought deserves the trophy at EFL.com/playeroftheround and those who voted for Biamou have been put into a draw, with the winner taking home some fantastic signed merchandise.
With goalless draws in their first two Group D fixtures, Coventry needed a goalscorer to step forward against Southampton Under-21s. Enter Biamou, whose neat finish and penalty put them 2-0 up. After the visitors made it 2-2, he then re-emerged to score a 93rd-minute winner.
On winning the Leasing.com Trophy player of the round, Biamou commented: “To win the Leasing.com Trophy Player of the Round means a lot to me because this is a great competition and at the same time, last season I was injured and I have come back from that ACL injury and am working hard to be a better player, a better striker. The game was only my third game back with the first team so to win a trophy like this means a lot to me.”
Coventry have now been drawn against MK Dons in Round Two as the Club look to emulate their EFL Trophy success from 2016-17.
Biamou added: “We all want to play at Wembley – it’s the best stadium in the world – so it would be very good for us and as players we just want to win every game and win trophies, so if we can do that at Wembley, we are happy.”
The Leasing.com Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel starred in each round of the competition.
An independent football expert selects five worthy players that make up the shortlist for each round, before supporters are given a chance to vote for their winner.
The player with the most votes will win the Player of the Round award. Every fan who votes for their favourite will be entered into a competition prize draw, where new car marketplace, Leasing.com will be offering one lucky supporter the chance to win signed merchandise.
There are now 32 Clubs remaining in the Leasing.com Trophy, and following the completion of the round of 32, fans will be invited to vote for their player of the round, from a shortlist of five stand-out players.
