NEWS: Coventry City announce retained list following end of 2018/19 season

9 May 2019

Coventry City Football Club can announce its retained list following the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.

Goalkeeper Lee Burge will be leaving Coventry City. The 26-year-old made 160 appearances for the Coventry City, having made his debut in August 2014. Burge was also integral in the Checkatrade Trophy win in 2017, and the 2017/18 League Two Play-Off winning season, during which he was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.

Defender Jack Grimmer also leaves the Sky Blues. The 25-year-old right back signed in July 2017, and was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year in 2017-18 as a key member of the League Two Play-Off winning side. Grimmer made 66 appearances for Coventry City, and scored three goals – including one in the Play-Off Final and also the FA Cup victory over Premier League side Stoke City.

Defender Tom Davies departs at the end of his contract also. Having joined in August 2017 from Portsmouth, Davies made 25 appearances for the Sky Blues at the heart of the defence during the promotion winning 2017/18 season. The 27-year-old centre-half would make a further 25 appearances in his second season with the club.

Goalkeeper Liam O’Brien leaves the Sky Blues, having made 19 appearances for Coventry City since joining from Portsmouth in July 2017, including in the FA Cup victory over then Premier League Stoke City.

Tony Andreu, on loan at Hamilton Academical since January, is leaving Coventry City at the end of his contract this Summer. Andreu, signed from Norwich City in August 2017, had an injury curtailed spell at the Club, appearing 16 times and scoring 3 goals while with the Sky Blues.

Striker Stuart Beavon is leaving after the conclusion of his contract, the 34-year-old having joined the Sky Blues in January 2017. Part of the Checkatrade Trophy winning side, he made 35 appearances and scored 3 goals – including the opener in the Checkatrade Trophy Semi-Final – and spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Wrexham.

Meanwhile, Under 23s players Chris Camwell, Reece Ford and Billy Stedman  will also leave Coventry City at the end of their contracts this Summer.

A one-year option in Goalkeeper Corey Addai’s contract has been taken up.

A new contract has been offered to Defender Jordan Willis.

Meanwhile Defender Lewis Green has been offered a one-year contract by the Club.

A number of them have featured in the success that we have enjoyed over the last few years or have come up through the Academy, and they will always have a place in the hearts of Sky Blues fans and in this Club’s history.

“Part of our journey is the evolution of the team as we look to push forward again and sometimes difficult decisions have to be taken about players futures, both in the first-team and Under 23s, as part of that process.

“We have an exciting summer of recruitment as we plan for next season, and look forward to sharing this news with our supporters.”
