FIRST WORDS | KYLE MCFADZEAN

The defender has agreed to join the Sky Blues...

9 May 2019

After agreeing to join the Sky Blues upon the expiry of his contract with Burton Albion, defender Kyle McFadzean is looking forward to the new campaign.

McFadzean becomes the first signing of the summer, adding to the agreement to sign Michael Rose from Ayr United back in January.

The 32-year-old has agreed a two-year-deal with the Sky Blues and knew Coventry was the club for him after speaking with Manager, Mark Robins.

He said: “It’s good to get it all done and looking forward to it now.

“I heard they (Coventry) were interested, so I was interested to speak to the Gaffer and as soon as I did my mind was made up straight away

“He said we need some experience at the back and I know it’s a young squad but it is a really good team.

“Last year Coventry were probably the best team to come to Burton and I think it suits the way I play football so I’m looking forward to it.”

Kyle is no stranger to promotion, having received four promotions in his career to date, including one from League One to the Championship.

The centre-back secured promotion from League One back in 2015 with Milton Keynes Dons and he is looking to use that experience next season.

“I spoke to the Gaffer and he said Coventry play like MK used to and that is the type of football that suits me.” He said.

“I like to get it down and drive out and I like to think I have an eye for a pass, so playing the style of football that Coventry do really helps me really and I can mix it up.

“It takes a good team to get promoted out of this division and I think the Gaffer is building one.

“We have some bright young players, so if we can keep them together then I think we have a good chance of doing so.

“I have a good feeling about this.”

Having secured his future so early on, McFadzean will now have the summer to prepare for joining up with his new team mates come the start of pre-season.

The centre-back will now take time to recover from the 2018/19 season, in preparation for the new campaign and told supporters they can expect ‘110%’.

“I’ve got a little girl and a wife, so it is nice going into the summer knowing what is happening and I’m really pleased to get it all sorted.

“I want a little break with the family, but it is boring when you finish football, so you are raring to come back after two weeks, so I am looking forward to starting and meeting all the lads.

“I will give 110% every game which everyone should do, but I wear my heart on my sleeve, I think the supporters will enjoy me. I believe I’m a good footballing centre half.”
