The Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon in Professional Development League action against Birmingham City.

Both sides had chances in the game, but neither were able to capitalise and find a winner during the ninety minutes.

It was a cagey start to the game, with both sides looking to get a foot hold in possession during the opening exchanges, with neither side forcing a shot early on.

However, it was the Sky Blues who looked for the breakthrough on twelve minutes, when Dexter Walters looked to break on the counter and he tried his luck from distance, but his shot went wide of the post.

Birmingham looked to respond, and it was young Jude Bellingham who worked his way into the box and from a tight angle, his shot went into the side netting.

Jason Farndon’s side won a free-kick just on the edge of the box and it was Jak Hickman who stepped up to take it, but he’s whipped ball went wide.

The visitors ‘keeper, Zach Jeacock was called into action moments later, as he had to get down low to stop a Josh Eccles half-volley from inside the box.

Blues’ first effort on target in the game fell to Odin Bailey and he drilled his shot straight at Corey Addai, who made the comfortable save.

Olly McCoy almost had a guilt-edge opportunity for the visitors when he beat his man and then as he looked to get a shot away, scuffed his shot and Addai was able to claim.

After the break, Eccles had the first opportunity for the Sky Blues when he cut onto his left foot and looked for the bottom corner, but sent his shot wide.

Seconds later, Birmingham hit the post through Bailey, as his low shot came back off the woodwork and was cleared away.

However, it was City who then came closest to taking the lead on 57 minutes, when a corner whipped in was met by Declan Drysdale at the back post, but his effort was blocked by Zach Jeacock and then, on the follow-up the Blues ‘keeper made a good save to deny Chris Camwell.

Midfielder, Corey O’Keefe looked for the spectacular midway through the half, as he attempted to lob Corey Addai from near the half way line, but Corey saved comfortably.

The Sky Blues ‘keeper was called into action a few minutes later and he made a good save to deny Ryan Burke from low inside the box.

City almost found a winner in the 87th minute and it was a chipped ball into the box from Jack Burroughs which was met by Morgan Williams, but he couldn’t steer his header towards goal.
