COMMUNITY: Extra Time Hub for retired people launches on Wednesday 27th March

20 March 2019

Extra Time Hubs, run by Sky Blues in the Community, for semi-retired and retired people in Coventry launches on Wednesday 27th March.

‘Extra Time Hubs’ is a national project from the EFL Trust and will initially be delivered by 12 EFL Clubs including Coventry City. The Hubs will harness the power of football clubs in the local communities to bring people together.

Extra Time Hubs has been made possible with thanks to National Lottery funding from Sport England and we aim to bring together retired and semi-retired people.

Extra Time Hubs will have a positive effect on the range of activities available to retired and semi-retired people in their free time and the opportunity to meet and spend time with like-minded people from the area and to prove that you’re never too old learn to do the things you’ve always wanted to do.

At an Extra Time Hub, it’s your time so you decide what you do. Quizzes, games, arts and crafts, music, singing, table tennis, films, talks, walks, bungee jumping or just sitting and having a chat over a cup of tea – Nothing is off the agenda if you really want to do it.

Mike Evans, EFL Trust Director of Operations said: “With the support of Sport England’s Active Ageing fund from the National Lottery, we will use the power of our football club badges will bring people together in a comfortable, familiar environment and allow them to shape their future path to improved health and well-being.”

Nathan Isom, Health Manager at Sky Blues in the Community said: “We are delighted to be bringing Extra Time Hubs to Coventry; Extra Time Hubs is a fantastic concept that will change the lives of older people in Coventry and Warwickshire.

"We already know the benefit of socialising for older people through our successful Walking Football activities and Extra Time Hubs will add to this. We are looking forward to sharing a weekly coffee, cake, and laugh with you!”
