INTERVIEW: Mark Robins Post-Match Liverpool Reaction

The Sky Blues were held to a goalless draw...

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins was pleased with the performance in his side’s draw with Liverpool Under-23s last night.

Robins’ side got another run-out as they moved one step closer to the opening game of the season against Southend United on August 3rd.

Despite the testing surface at Rugby Town’s Butlin Road, Robins thought both sides put on a good game for the 2,594 in attendance.

He said: “It was a tough surface for both teams, but I thought it was a really good game.

“You can see Liverpool do it the right way and some of the players they have are really good top-class young players and it was good to test ourselves against them on a really hot day.

“I thought there were some good things and I thought there were some things that we still need to work on which we knew before the game.

“They all worked hard, they’ve worked on a really difficult surface and I’m pleased we got through it.

“It isn’t as fluid as you would like at the moment, but it isn’t going to be; it will be however on a better surface, it will be better than that.”

With just over a week until the start of the season, Robins revealed that there are still places up for grabs in his starting eleven.

City travel to the County Ground to face Swindon Town on Saturday in their latest pre-season fixture.

“People can still force their way into the starting eleven a week on Saturday, but time is running out and they’ve got to work hard.” Robins said.

“There are still areas that we have to improve on, and it won’t be right at the start, it’s going to take time.

“We want to be as close to a finished article as we can be, we need to be ready for the game.”

The manager also told how he is still looking to do something in the transfer window before the window closes.

League One sides will have until the end of August to complete their business and Robins is hoping to get some deals done before then.

“I’m still looking to do something in the market, we still want some incomings to tie things together.

“Everyone at the club knows what I want and we’re trying very hard to close deals and get these players done.”
