25 January 2019

The Sky Blues made it four wins on the bounce in Professional Development League action.

David Bremang scored the only goal of the game after he latched onto a Sam McCallum ball and rounded the ‘keeper to earn all three points.

First chance of the game fell to Jayden Bennetts as the visitors looked to press early on and it was Bennetts who picked up the ball outside the box and drilled an effort towards goal, but he dragged his shot wide.

It was Bennetts again who had the next opportunity and this time he would be denied by Declan Drysdale who got his body in the way.

23 minutes on the clock and Tom Bilson was called into action. Watford were awarded a free kick and it was Ashley Charles who curled an effort towards the top corner, but Billson made a superb stop.

City looked to get their noses in front and almost could’ve been when Morgan Williams was on the end of a Jak Hickman cross, but he couldn’t steer it towards goal.

David Bremang was next to give a scare to the Watford defence. A teasing ball into the box from Sam McCallum was met by the on running Bremang, but he fired over.

The City onslaught continued and this time it was Jonny Ngandu as he tried his luck from range, but he blazed wide.

After the break, both sides battled for possession and the first shot of the game fell to Folivi, but his effort was deflected behind for a corner.

A few moments later Bennetts was involved again for the visitors as he had a shot from inside the box but Bilson was equal to it.

Sky Blues grew into the game from then on and Bremang came close to opening the scoring when he was on the end of a good ball by McCallum, but the ‘keeper saved.

From the resulting corner, Morgan Williams rose highest and was on the end of a Hickman corner, but again the ‘keeper saved.

However, he would be beaten on 67 minutes as David Bremang latched onto a defence splitting ball by Sam McCallum and he rounded the ‘keeper and slotted it into the back of the net.

City almost doubled that lead moments late when Morgan Williams hit the bar twice! The defender was on the end of substitute Chris Camwell’s corner and he guided the ball onto the bar and then on the follow-up headed off the bar again.

Ten minutes later and this time it was Ngandu who had a shot come back off the bar. The midfielder picked up the ball from distance and set himself and had the ‘keeper beat, but his ball come off the bar.

80 minutes down and Bilson was called into action again as he got down low to prevent Folivi finding the back of the net.
