REPORT: Charlton Athletic U23s 2-0 Sky Blues U23s

9 December 2019

Coventry City's Under 23s side were beaten 2-0 away to Charlton Athletic on Monday afternoon.

Josh Davison scored twice for the Addicks, the goals coming in the 22nd and 26th minute in a spell that flipped the game on its head.

Josh Pask started for Luke Tisdale's side as he comes back from injury, while fellow injury returnee Matty Godden was up front following his cameo against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Charles Clayden tested Tom Billson early on, with City hitting back when Charlie Wakefield's cross was headed by Godden onto the underside of the bar.

Charlton broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when Abraham Odoh's shot was saved by Billson, but fell kindly to Davison who was able to poke home from close range.

Four minutes later the lead was doubled, Jay Mingi sliding the ball across goal to the advancing Davison who made it 2-0.

In the second-half, Charlton had chances through Junior Quitirna and Kenneth Yao, before Josh Eccles received his marching orders for a second booking with seven minutes of the encounter remaining.

City nearly halved the defecit when Bouwe Bosma's header rattled the crossbar, but the score remained 2-0 to the hosts. Bosma was a second-half sub, alongside Jodi Jones who played 45 minutes.
